What is the Bharat Optimization Score?

The Bharat Optimization Score (BOS) is a predictive metabolic index developed by Bharat Data Sagar. It compresses five independently validated lifestyle factors into a single 0–100 score that indicates how aligned an Indian adult’s daily life is with clinically optimal metabolic health.

Formula

The five inputs

BOS = 0.30 × BMI band + 0.20 × BMR–TDEE alignment + 0.20 × macro adherence + 0.15 × sleep index + 0.15 × digital detox compliance
30%

BMI Band Score

Your Body Mass Index, scored against the South Asian risk-adjusted bands published by the Indian Diabetes Federation (overweight ≥ 23, obese ≥ 25), not the Western thresholds.

20%

BMR — TDEE Alignment

How closely your reported daily caloric intake tracks the Total Daily Energy Expenditure derived from the Mifflin–St Jeor equation, conditioned on your goal (cut, recomp, gain).

20%

Macro Adherence

Protein, carbohydrate and fat targets vs. your last 7 days of logged meals, bounded by ICMR-NIN macronutrient ratios for the Indian adult and your declared disease band.

15%

Sleep Quality Index

Hours and rhythm of sleep mapped to the AASM adult guideline (7 to 9 hours) with a chronotype-aware drift penalty for inconsistent bedtimes.

15%

Digital Detox Compliance

Daily recreational screen-time vs. the WHO 2-hour adult recommendation, expressed as a 14-day rolling adherence score with weekend smoothing.

Interpretation Bands

How to read your BOS

75–100

Aligned

Lifestyle is metabolically aligned. Maintain rhythm; periodic checkpoint every 90 days.

50–74

Drifting

One or two factors are off-band. Identify the lowest weighted contributor and target it for the next 14 days.

0–49

At-Risk

Multiple factors compounding. Recommended: schedule a clinician consult and rebuild the lowest two factors first.

Q&A

Frequently asked

What is the Bharat Optimization Score (BOS)?

The Bharat Optimization Score (BOS) is a predictive metabolic index developed by Bharat Data Sagar that combines BMI band, BMR–TDEE alignment, macronutrient adherence, sleep quality and digital detox compliance into a single 0–100 score that indicates how aligned a person’s lifestyle is with clinically optimal metabolic health for the Indian adult.

How is the BOS score different from a BMI score?

BMI is one input. BOS is a composite five-factor index that weighs BMI at only 30%, while also accounting for energy balance, macro adherence, sleep, and screen-time. This is why two people with identical BMIs can have very different BOS scores.

How is BOS calculated?

BOS = 0.30 × BMI band score + 0.20 × (TDEE alignment) + 0.20 × (macro adherence) + 0.15 × (sleep index) + 0.15 × (digital detox compliance). Each sub-score is normalised to 0–100, so the final BOS is also 0–100. A BOS above 75 is considered metabolically aligned; below 50 is considered at-risk.

Is BOS a clinical diagnosis?

No. BOS is an educational, lifestyle-aligned index. It is not a substitute for a clinical evaluation by a qualified physician or dietician. It is designed to help users understand the multi-factorial drivers behind metabolic health.
